Luka Modric has officially closed a legendary chapter in football history. The Croatian midfielder played his final game for Real Madrid in the Club World Cup semifinal loss to PSG. While he would have preferred to leave with a win and one last final, the outcome doesn't tarnish the unforgettable legacy he leaves behind at the Santiago Bernabéu.
In a heartfelt farewell message published on the club’s official channels, Modric expressed deep gratitude to Real Madrid, president Florentino Pérez, and the fans who supported him for over a decade.
"The president has played a crucial role in my career—first for bringing me here. Since then, he’s always shown me special affection. I can say it now: he treated me differently. There was a very special bond, and I think that was evident during my last game. I had never seen him cry before.”
"It’s difficult to put into words, but my emotions are mixed. A glorious, unforgettable, and victorious era has come to an end. Still, I’m filled with joy when I reflect on everything I’ve experienced and achieved here. Real Madrid helped me grow both as a footballer and a person. This club gave me everything.
