Real Madrid and Olympiacos will face each other in a European Cup final for the fifth time in history when they meet in Athens on Sunday at 8:00 pm.

Two years after Real Madrid’s dramatic victory in Kaunas, Sergio Scariolo’s team will aim to win the club’s twelfth EuroLeague title and further strengthen its historic record in the competition.

The rivalry between the two sides will reach its 57th game in Europe’s top basketball competition since their first meeting in 1979. Real Madrid currently lead the overall head-to-head record 36-20.

The clubs have previously met four times in a EuroLeague final, with Real Madrid winning three of those encounters: Zaragoza in 1995 (73-61), Madrid in 2015 (78-59), and Kaunas in 2023 (78-79).

The 2023 final remains one of the most memorable in recent history after Real Madrid erased a seven-point deficit in the final five minutes. Sergio Rodríguez sparked the comeback before Sergio Llull scored the winning basket with 3.1 seconds remaining against Fall.

This season, both teams protected home court in their meetings. Real Madrid won 89-77 at the Movistar Arena, while Olympiacos responded with a 102-88 victory in Piraeus.

For Real Madrid, this will be a fourth EuroLeague final appearance in the last five years after reaching the championship game in 2022, 2023, 2024, and now 2026. Olympiacos, meanwhile, will play in their third final during that period following appearances in 2022, 2023, and 2026.

The Greek side, coached by Georgios Bartzokas, will have strong support in Athens despite the final being played at the Telekom Center, the home arena of rivals Panathinaikos. Olympiacos secured their place in the final after defeating Fenerbahce 79-61 in the semifinals.
