The clash had its origins in the first half, when Simeone tried to provoke Vinicius from the sidelines with a comment intended to unsettle him: “Florentino is going to kick you out, remember what I’m telling you.” The exchange did not go unnoticed and only added fuel to an already heated rivalry.

Things escalated further in the second half when Vinicius was substituted. Simeone once again approached the Brazilian, this time attempting to convince him that the whistles from the stands were directed at him. Vinicius, already off the pitch, reacted angrily, sparking a brief confrontation between the two benches.
