On June 29, 1920, King Alfonso XIII granted Madrid Football Club the prestigious title of “Real”, officially marking the beginning of a new era in the club’s history. The designation came in the form of a formal letter from the Royal Household addressed to then-president Pedro Parages.
The document read: “His Majesty the King (qDg) has been pleased to grant, with the greatest pleasure, the title of ‘Real’ to this Football Club, of which you are the worthy President. From now on, this title may be placed before its name. By Royal Order, I inform you of this for your knowledge and subsequent action.”
This royal concession allowed the club to add the royal crown to its crest and adopt its new and now legendary name: Real Madrid Football Club.
