The Negreira Case has returned to the headlines in recent hours after UEFA confirmed that it had received a substantial amount of documentation from Real Madrid. According to Diario AS, the dossier contains around 50,000 pages, while a final resolution is not expected before mid-2027 at the earliest. The case therefore remains unresolved, with UEFA continuing to examine the material submitted by Real Madrid.

The latest developments have also highlighted the number of referees who remain active in Spanish football after having worked during José María Enríquez Negreira's time as vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees. According to AS, 20 referees from that period are still involved in Spanish refereeing, with some now holding important positions within the refereeing structure.

Real Madrid wants UEFA to take disciplinary action if the investigation establishes that Barcelona committed violations during the period under scrutiny. The club has already urged UEFA to move forward with the investigation as quickly as possible and says its dossier contains extensive documentation and evidence concerning the case.

Among the possible consequences discussed is a significant sporting sanction. UEFA's regulations allow for a club to be excluded from European competition for one season if it determines that the club was involved in activities aimed at influencing the outcome of matches. Real Madrid has also requested that Barcelona be stripped of titles won during the period under investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing, however, and no conclusion has been reached regarding Barcelona's responsibility. Barcelona has also stated that UEFA did not open a new case, arguing that the existing investigation, which began in 2023, was never closed and that the latest documentation will simply be assessed as part of the ongoing proceedings.
