It has been 32 years since the death of one of the great legends of Real Madrid: Juan Gómez "Juanito". On April 2, 1992, the former Real Madrid player lost his life in a traffic accident when he was returning to Mérida after watching a match at the Santiago Bernabéu against Torino. At that time, he was 37 years old and was the coach of Mérida.

Born in Fuengirola, Malaga, on November 10, 1954, Juanito made history with Real Madrid from 1977 to 1987. He participated in 401 official games for our team, scoring 121 goals and taking home two UEFA Cups, five league titles, two Copa del Rey, one League Cup, and one Pichichi Trophy.

Ever since that tragic incident, Real Madrid supporters honor him by singing "Illa, illa, illa, Juanito maravilla" at the seventh minute of every game at Santiago Bernabéu. In addition to combining quality and grit in his playing style, Juanito starred in unforgettable images in Real Madrid history, such as his jumps of joy in the comeback against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 1985-86 UEFA Cup.
