On September 8, 1955, Real Madrid played their first-ever match in the European Cup, the inaugural edition of what would become the UEFA Champions League. The team started their historic journey with a 2-0 victory over Servette in Geneva. Miguel Muñoz had the honor of scoring Real Madrid's first goal in the competition, followed by a goal from Rial to seal the win for coach Villalonga's team.

That season marked the beginning of Real Madrid's legendary legacy in European football. The team went on to win the title, defeating Servette, Partizan, and Milan in the qualifying rounds. In the final, Real Madrid became the first club to lift the European Cup, defeating Stade de Reims in Paris.

Sixty-nine years later, Real Madrid holds an unparalleled record in the competition, boasting 15 titles. The club also leads in victories (294), games played (489), and goals scored (1,075). Individually, Iker Casillas holds the record for most appearances with 152 matches, while Cristiano Ronaldo remains the top scorer with 105 goals for the club in the competition.
