The relationship between Real Madrid and the European Football Clubs (EFC) could be entering a new phase. Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of PSG and the EFC, used the General Assembly in Copenhagen to directly address Real Madrid and Florentino Pérez. His comments are particularly notable after years of distance between the two sides over the Super League project and Real Madrid's position within European football.
According to Diario AS, Al-Khelaïfi acknowledged that contacts with Real Madrid are ongoing and expressed his support for the club's return to the organization. The Qatari president stressed the importance of restoring unity among Europe's major clubs and directly addressed Florentino Pérez during his speech.
The comments come despite Real Madrid's absence from the Copenhagen meeting and could signal a change in tone between the two sides after years of disagreement. Al-Khelaïfi reiterated his call for unity while leaving the door open for Real Madrid.
“I want to thank Florentino Pérez for his commitment to unity,” Al-Khelaïfi said during his address, according to the aforementioned media outlet.
Real Madrid remains outside the EFC for now, but Al-Khelaïfi's comments have renewed the possibility of closer relations between the club and the organization.
