As he prepares to release his next album, Alejandro Sanz sat down for an interview with Vanity Fair. While much of the conversation revolved around his new music, the singer also spoke passionately about his deep connection to Real Madrid, the club he fervently supports.

Sanz revealed that his Madridista devotion stemmed from a deeply personal experience. "I wasn’t really into football before my father passed away. But from that moment on, it felt as if his spirit took over me. That’s when I became a Real Madrid fan, and to this day, I love Real Madrid. I know some will twist my words, but for me, it’s more than just football—I love watching Real Madrid. Of course, I enjoy games from Barcelona, Atlético, Betis, and City, but the ones I truly savor are Madrid’s."

Though he doesn’t let defeats keep him up at night, Carlo Ancelotti’s presence at the club has made him more invested. "I worry more now because Ancelotti is a great friend, and I want him to succeed. And then there’s Florentino—his place in history is already secured, no matter what happens next. Beyond being an incredible president, he’s a friend."

When asked whether Florentino Pérez has surpassed Santiago Bernabéu’s legacy, Sanz was clear: "I think so. Bernabéu built the club from nothing, but I believe Florentino has done just as much."

The singer also admitted to using his friendship with the club’s president to push for Kylian Mbappé’s signing. "Yes, yes. In fact, one day, Javier Limón and I met with Florentino because he asked me to write a song for Real Madrid. By the way, it’s already finished. We’re just waiting for a special club occasion to release it. I wrote it with Carlos Varela, a Cuban composer I deeply admire and love."
