Real Madrid’s latest signing, Trent Alexander-Arnold, will be trading his iconic number 66 shirt for a new number as he begins his career in Spain. According to Diario AS, the England international has been presented with two options: 17 or 18.
Due to La Liga regulations, squad numbers must fall between 1 and 25, meaning Alexander-Arnold cannot retain his traditional Liverpool number. With goalkeeper numbers 1, 13, and 23 already occupied, the right-back is expected to inherit a number left vacant by an outgoing player.
Lucas Vázquez (No. 17) and Jesús Vallejo (No. 18) are both set to leave the club, opening the door for Alexander-Arnold to claim one of their shirts. However, with Vázquez still traveling for the Club World Cup, it's likely that the English defender will begin his Real Madrid journey wearing No. 18.
Alexander-Arnold arrives at the Santiago Bernabéu after a lengthy negotiation period. Though he joined as a free agent, reports indicate that Liverpool received a €10 million fee as part of a mutual agreement to advance the transfer timeline.
This transfer marks a major addition for Xabi Alonso's side, and fans will be eager to see how quickly the dynamic full-back adapts to life in Madrid.
