Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso plans to rotate Vinícius Junior and Rodrygo regularly on the left wing this season, with the aim of creating healthy competition that drives both Brazilians to new levels.

The strategy comes at a time when Rodrygo has reaffirmed his loyalty to Madrid, despite being linked with a potential summer exit. According to AS, no formal offers arrived and the forward had no intention of leaving.

Alonso, who has spoken with Rodrygo on multiple occasions, values his ambition to perform on the left flank—where he can cut inside and unleash his trademark long-range shots. But that position also belongs to Vinícius, his close friend and Brazil teammate, who remains the natural starter.

The coach’s rotation plan has already borne fruit. Against Oviedo, Rodrygo started and impressed before Vinícius came off the bench to score and assist. Days later against Mallorca, their roles were reversed, with Vinícius starting and Rodrygo making an impact as a substitute.

This tactical duel is set to become a hallmark of Real Madrid’s 2025/26 campaign, with Alonso using competition between the two to push his team’s attack to even greater heights.
