On October 2, the Board of Directors chaired by Florentino Pérez will propose to the Assembly of committing partners the ratification of Amancio Amaro (82 years old) as honorary president of Real Madrid (ninth in the history of the club), after the appointment agreement adopted by the Board last 12 of September.

Amancio was a player for the whites' first team for fourteen years (1962-1976) and will succeed Paco Gento in the role. Coming from Deportivo, he was one of the leaders of the 'ye-yé' Real Madrid that managed to win the European Cup in 1966. He also won nine Leagues and three Cups, to which must be added the 1964 European Championship.

During his time with the white team, he played 471 official matches, being the sixteenth footballer with the most matches played in the history of Real Madrid. In total, he scored 155 goals.

Amancio has been closely linked to Florentino Pérez since the current president was a candidate for the presidency. In fact, he became a member of the Board of Directors in the first stage of the current president at the head of the club. Amancio was coach of the first white team for six months. He also directed Castilla, a team with which he was champion of the Second Division in the 83-84 season, with the 'Quinta del Buitre' as a reference.
