Carlo Ancelotti faces a formidable challenge: helping Real Madrid win the League for the second year in a row. Since Capello's agonizing League (2006–2007) and the one achieved by Schuster (2007–2008), with the memorable 'pasillo' from Barça at the Bernabéu, the whites have not accomplished this feat in 14 seasons.
In his first year and a half as a white coach, Ancelotti won three trophies: Champions, Copa del Rey, and Club World Cup. After last season, he has three more: Spanish Super Cup, League, and Champions. After winning the Capello and Schuster Leagues, the Madrid team won the league under Mourinho in 2011–2012, Zidane in 2016–2017 and 2019–2020, and Carlo Ancelotti in 2021–2022.
On the other hand, the Italian apart from the desire to break that negative streak of 14 years without winning two consecutive Leagues, wants to achieve another goal: equal Leo Benhakker (historic manager of the merengue club in the Quinta del Buitre) as only coach to win two consecutive league titles with the same club. Benhankker managed to be champion (twice) with Madrid in the 1980s (1987-1988; 1988-1989).
With two new players, Rudiger (29) and Thouaméni (22) and a team core that has been renewed for many years, Real Madrid, which has already begun its preseason for the upcoming year, hopes to have an exciting season (six titles are at stake: Champions, League, Copa del Rey, European Super Cup, Spanish Super Cup, and Club World Cup). Ancelotti wants to fight against the past, as he has never led his teams to consecutive league titles. He failed to do that at Chelsea, Milan, PSG, and Bayern Munich; will he succeed at Real Madrid?
