Carlo Ancelotti knows Vinicius Jr. well. Their bond during their time together at Real Madrid was strong, which is why the current Brazil coach feels he can offer both advice and gentle criticism when necessary.

During the press conference where he announced Brazil’s squad for the friendlies against Tunisia and Senegal, Ancelotti was asked about Vinicius’ visible frustration after being substituted by Xabi Alonso during El Clásico.

“We have a very good relationship with Vinicius, just as we do with all the players. When something happens, we talk, share opinions, and ask for advice. I spoke with Vinicius about his reaction. I told him what I thought — that he was wrong — he understood it and I believe he apologised. It’s a closed matter,” said the coach.

The Italian avoided fueling the issue, which he considers resolved: “Vinicius is a very important player for us, someone who can offer a lot, and we care about him a lot. I don’t think there’s any problem here, neither with his club nor with his coach.”

“I’m not his father or his brother — I just want to be his coach. His personal life is his own,” Ancelotti concluded.
