Following the disappointment of the Spanish Super Cup final loss to Barcelona, there has been increased speculation about Carlo Ancelotti’s future at Real Madrid. Despite the team competing for the Champions League, Copa del Rey, leading La Liga, and already securing the UEFA Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup, the Italian coach is experiencing a turbulent season.
Inconsistent performances, particularly the three defeats in the Champions League and heavy losses in El Clásico, have raised doubts about Ancelotti's position, marking the first time such concerns have surfaced since his return to Madrid in 2021. While the board continues to express confidence in him, some are beginning to sense fatigue in his leadership and tactical approach, citing irregular performances and results.
Moreover, Ancelotti himself might be recognizing the strain, potentially leading to the end of his second tenure at Real Madrid this summer. Edu Pidal revealed on the "Radioestadio Noche" program on Onda Cero: "What I hear is that regardless of the outcome, Ancelotti will not continue next season, likely by his own choice."
Although Ancelotti’s contract runs until 2026, there appears to be a mutual understanding between the coach and the Real Madrid board to part ways after this season. According to the same source, the club has also identified Xabi Alonso as the likely successor to take charge of the team.
