Antonio Rüdiger was sent off by referee De Burgos Bengoechea just before the final whistle after angrily protesting and throwing an object onto the pitch.

With emotions cooled by Sunday morning, the Real Madrid center-back publicly acknowledged his mistake and offered an apology: "There’s no excuse for my behavior last night. I’m very sorry, and I apologize to the referee," Rüdiger said.

He also praised his team's strong second-half performance, while once again taking responsibility for his own lapse: "We played a very good game from the second half onwards. After 111 minutes, I was no longer able to help my team, and before the final whistle, I made a mistake."

Rüdiger now faces a significant suspension for the incident, where he lost his temper with De Burgos Bengoechea. The referee noted in his official report that Rüdiger threw an object from the technical area — an action that did not hit him but was followed by aggressive behavior requiring staff intervention.

The referee's report stated: "In the 120th minute, player (22) Rüdiger, Antonio was sent off for the following reason: For throwing an object from the technical area without reaching me. After being shown the red card, he had to be restrained by several members of the technical staff, displaying an aggressive attitude."

Rüdiger’s public apology could potentially serve as a mitigating factor when disciplinary actions are considered.
