Real Madrid's appeal to overturn Vinicius Jr.'s two-match ban has been dismissed by the Appeal Committee. The ban stems from the Brazilian player's red card during the match against Valencia at Mestalla. After initial appeals to the Competition Committee were unsuccessful, Real Madrid's further appeal has also been rejected.
One of the main arguments presented by the club was that Vinicius had been provoked by Dimitrievski before reacting in a manner that led to his sending-off. However, this claim was not enough to reduce the punishment imposed by the Competition Committee.
In its ruling, the Appeal Committee stated: "The two-match suspension imposed by the Disciplinary Committee is fully in line with the law. While the alleged provocation may be considered a mitigating factor, it does not warrant a further reduction of the sanction, especially since the minimum punishment was already applied. As such, the original decision is confirmed in full, and the appeal is dismissed."
Real Madrid now has the option to escalate the case to the Administrative Sports Tribunal (TAD) within 15 working days. If they choose not to, Vinicius will miss the upcoming La Liga matches against Las Palmas and Valladolid.
