Álvaro Arbeloa did not hold back in the press room at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium after the draw between Real Madrid and Girona.
The coach openly criticized the refereeing decision regarding Kylian Mbappé’s penalty appeal: “For me, it’s a penalty here and on the moon. It’s just another one, another week. I don’t understand it, and I don’t think anyone understands when VAR intervenes.”
Arbeloa suggested inconsistency in the use of VAR, hinting that decisions depend on convenience rather than clear criteria. He also compared the incident to previous matches, reinforcing his frustration: “We’ve had many issues with the referees. With this one, last week in Mallorca… The same old story.”
