Are the boos toward Vinícius a message of support for the coach?

Nearly two months have passed since Vinicius openly showed his frustration after being substituted by Xabi Alonso in the La Liga Clásico against Barcelona, an episode that publicly exposed tension between player and coach. That moment marked the beginning of a turbulent period in which results dipped, even though performances have stabilized somewhat in recent weeks. Still, uncertainty continues to surround the relationship between the Brazilian forward and the coach from Tolosa.

Football analyst Axel Torres addressed the situation on Movistar+, focusing on the latest chapter: the boos Vinicius received from sections of the Bernabéu crowd. Torres suggested that the reaction from the stands could be interpreted as implicit backing for Xabi Alonso in a potential internal conflict.

“And if this reaction is, in some way, the fans taking a stand in favor of Xabi Alonso in a hypothetical Vinicius-Xabi clash, then I’m satisfied,” Torres explained. “Because what Real Madrid may be missing this season is stronger support for the coach from all sides.”

He went on to emphasize that Alonso was appointed as a transformative coach, someone brought in to change established dynamics, something that naturally generates resistance. According to Torres, such profiles need time, patience, and firm backing when difficulties arise.

“If that support doesn’t come clearly from the club, it wouldn’t be a bad thing if it came from the stands,” he added. “The coach is often the weakest link in football, and usually the one who needs the most protection.”

Torres concluded by expressing personal sympathy for Alonso, highlighting the challenge of implementing a new management style at a club not always accustomed to such changes. “If the booing of Vinicius is interpreted in that way, I don’t know if it is, but if it is, then I’m happy,” he said.
