Raúl Asencio (born 2003) has quickly become a key figure in Real Madrid's defense, providing Carlo Ancelotti with much-needed stability in recent weeks. Asencio's emergence has been a huge relief for the coach, especially after the injury to Eduardo Camavinga. His presence allows Aurélien Tchouaméni to return to his natural midfield position, strengthening a key area for the team and relieving the Frenchman from having to fill in as a center-back.
Tchouaméni is also nearing a return to full fitness after recovering from the sprained left ankle he sustained on November 5 during the match against AC Milan, where he was substituted at halftime following a clash with Álvaro Morata. His return to training with the squad is a positive development, and if all goes according to plan, he is expected to be included in the squad for Real Madrid’s upcoming La Liga match against Athletic Club on Wednesday, December 4, at San Mamés.
Without Asencio stepping up, Ancelotti would have faced a significant dilemma in managing both the midfield and defense. Asencio’s emergence in defense has allowed Ancelotti to avoid improvising with Tchouaméni in defense, enabling a more balanced team and ensuring that Tchouaméni can focus on his role as the pivot in midfield.
