Jude Bellingham is seriously weighing the option of ending his prolonged shoulder issues once and for all. According to The Athletic, the Real Madrid midfielder and his camp are considering undergoing surgery after the Club World Cup to finally resolve the discomfort that has plagued him for over 18 months. The medical procedure would sideline Bellingham for the opening stretch of next season, potentially lasting several weeks—or even months—depending on his recovery.

The English international has been struggling with persistent pain in his left shoulder since November 5, 2023, when he dislocated it early in a match against Rayo Vallecano at the Santiago Bernabéu. Though he only missed two weeks at the time, the injury never fully healed. Since then, Bellingham has continued to play wearing a restrictive shoulder brace, which has repeatedly limited his physical capacity on the pitch.

Even during crucial moments—such as last year’s training session at Wembley ahead of the Champions League final against Dortmund—his condition showed concerning signs. For a player known for his physical intensity and box-to-box energy, the injury has become a serious performance handicap.

The expected recovery period could last up to three months, making the timing of the surgery difficult to navigate. Last season’s tight schedule, which left Bellingham with barely a month’s rest between the European Championship and the UEFA Super Cup, led to the decision being postponed. But now, both the player and Real Madrid are open to moving forward with the operation.

Should the surgery take place following the Club World Cup, Bellingham would initially miss little due to the August break. However, from late August onward, Madrid face a jam-packed calendar: the LaLiga season is expected to start on August 16–17, and depending on their involvement in the U.S. competition, Madrid could be granted a delayed start. Still, with early Champions League matchdays and domestic fixtures, Bellingham’s absence could be deeply felt in the first months of Xabi Alonso’s tenure.

With the 2026 World Cup also looming at the end of the season, this might be the only realistic window for Bellingham to undergo the much-needed surgery.
