Spain hosted its first-ever NFL game on Sunday, November 16, as the Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders faced off at the Santiago Bernabéu. The impact exceeded all expectations — media, public, and economic. Early estimates place the economic boost at around €150 million, with hotel occupancy reaching 90% across the region.

Beyond the numbers, the social impact was even greater. The NFL was so impressed by the Bernabéu, the city of Madrid, and the overall response that the league has already hinted at bringing more games to Spain. Attendance reached 78,610, including 42,000 international visitors, many from the U.S. and nearby European countries, staying an average of four days. Spending in bars and restaurants alone generated €21 million, helping push the total economic impact — according to the Madrid City Council — to around €170 million. Ticket prices ranged from €80 to €5,000.

These figures are comparable to NFL games in Munich (2022) and London (2023), both of which generated close to €200 million. The league continues its push to expand internationally, targeting Europe and Central and South America as key markets. With Madrid now joining England, Germany, Mexico, and Brazil as successful hosts, Spain’s debut could mark the start of a long-term NFL presence.
