Italian football legend Leonardo Bonucci believes no team has been stronger than Real Madrid over the past two decades. In a recent interview, Bonucci praised the Spanish giants, stating, "Real Madrid has been the strongest team in the last 15-20 years. There are no words to describe Real Madrid. Possibly the greatest in the world."

Bonucci also revealed in a previous interview with Marca that he was close to joining Real Madrid in 2017. He shared how negotiations had advanced significantly after Madrid defeated his Juventus side in the Champions League final that year. "There was a time when I was very close to being a Real Madrid player, to wearing the white shirt. It was a dream," Bonucci recalled.

He added that the club ultimately opted for a younger player instead, but he still holds admiration for Real Madrid and its roster of champions. "It was the summer of 2017, after they beat us in the Cardiff final. Negotiations between my agent and Madrid intensified a lot. But it didn't close. They looked for a younger player and not a thirty-something. It was a nice move, even if it didn't happen."

Bonucci also praised Real Madrid's coach, Carlo Ancelotti, referring to him as a great maestro. Despite the transfer falling through, Bonucci expressed his affection and respect for the club, concluding, "I have affection, respect, and admiration for Madrid."
