Brazil is not backing down from its pursuit of Carlo Ancelotti to take over the national team, despite multiple failed attempts in the past. This time, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is relying on a new approach, utilizing the influence of businessman Diego Fernandes. Though not officially affiliated with the CBF, Fernandes is closely connected to football officials and players in Brazil, and is now acting as an intermediary.

Sources close to the negotiations confirm that talks with Ancelotti’s camp are being held discreetly. The CBF’s strategy is clear: to secure Ancelotti’s appointment before FIFA’s international deadline in June. That would allow the Italian to lead Brazil in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay — a crucial step after their damaging 4-1 loss to Argentina. Though Brazil currently sit fourth in the standings, their qualification for the 2026 World Cup is far from guaranteed.

Ancelotti publicly denied any direct contact with the CBF during a press conference in March, but discussions are reportedly ongoing between his representatives and Brazilian emissaries. Fernandes, notably, has been spotted at several recent matches at the Santiago Bernabéu, including tonight’s clash.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid is fully focused on the final stretch of the season. However, should Ancelotti and the club decide to part ways, Xabi Alonso’s name continues to gain traction as a potential successor. Florentino Pérez and the Madrid hierarchy remain grateful for Ancelotti’s work during his second spell in charge and would prefer any transition to be handled with mutual respect and appreciation.
