Many were left speechless after Vinicius Junior’s stunning performance against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, but Emilio Butragueño wasn’t one of them. The Real Madrid executive didn’t hesitate to heap praise on the match’s star player. After Vinicius secured a hat-trick and the MVP award, Butragueño spoke about the Brazilian's brilliance.
“It was an exhibition that justifies coming to the Bernabéu,” said the club’s Director of Institutional Relations. Reviewing the goals, Butragueño highlighted some of Vinicius' standout qualities: “He advanced with a power and control that showcase his physical strength.” He particularly praised Vinicius' second goal, remarking on the Brazilian's calmness in the final moments: “He has the clarity to decide where to place it and the technique to send it close to the post.”
But it was Vinicius' third goal that truly astonished Butragueño. Comparing the Brazilian winger to football legends like Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, and even Maradona might intimidate some, but Butragueño did not hesitate to mention another iconic name: “He reminded me of Pelé.” The spectacular move by the former Flamengo player to complete his hat-trick capped off Real Madrid’s comeback. “The way he entered the area and that feint… reminded me of Pelé,” Butragueño added.
