An explosive derby between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid had everything: goals, penalties, red cards, controversy and even a moment of personal revenge involving Vinícius Júnior.
The Brazilian winger, who scored twice in the match, appeared to settle a score with Diego Simeone. The incident occurred when Vinícius was substituted in the 87th minute and walked toward Atlético’s bench.
Footage revealed by DAZN on its Super8 program showed the Real Madrid forward repeatedly saying: “They’re going to sell me, they’re going to sell me…”—a phrase he repeated several times while passing by the Atlético bench.
The moment is linked to a previous derby played in Saudi Arabia, where Simeone had tried to provoke the winger by claiming that Florentino Pérez was going to sell him. Vinícius’ words during the latest derby appeared to be a direct response to that comment.
Simeone did not take the gesture well and was visibly annoyed by the player’s behavior as he left the pitch at the Santiago Bernabéu.
