Dani Carvajal was the Real Madrid player to speak after the loss at the Metropolitano. The captain combined self-criticism with complaints about certain refereeing decisions, particularly regarding the absence of a second yellow card for Sorloth after celebrating his goal with the fans.
Carvajal explained that the referee justified his decision by saying that celebrating with the crowd is only punished when it poses a safety risk. “They told us there was no dangerous situation, so that’s why no booking was given. But maybe they should explain these things to us before the competition starts,” the defender said.
The right-back also pointed out another controversial moment, when Nico González caught him with a hard challenge: “I haven’t seen the replay, but I have the mark from the cleats on my leg.”
On a more practical note, Carvajal suggested a solution regarding ball recovery during matches: “Placing cones with balls around the pitch, like they do in the Premier League, would make things simpler.”
In addition, both Carvajal and Éder Militão will undergo medical tests following injuries sustained in the derby. Carvajal, who was substituted in the 59th minute for Eduardo Camavinga, is experiencing discomfort in his right soleus muscle. Despite the concern, he reassured fans after the match: “Everything’s fine, it was just a knock.”
