In a message shared on his social media in the early hours, the Real Madrid full-back announced that he has suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury, which will require surgery and months of recovery. Carvajal expressed optimism despite the setback, posting a selfie from his stretcher with a half-smile and writing: "A serious cruciate ligament injury has been confirmed; I'm going to have to undergo surgery and be off the pitch for a few months. I'm already looking forward to starting the recovery and coming back like a beast. Thank you all very much for your messages. I feel very loved."

Carvajal’s injury occurred in the final moments of the match against Villarreal. While attempting to clear the ball from Yeremy Pino, his right leg got caught, causing him to fall immediately. His scream alarmed his teammates, who quickly signaled for the medics. The severity of the injury was evident from the beginning, as Carvajal was seen in tears while being taken off the field.
