The San Isidro festivities officially kicked off at Plaza de la Villa, as is tradition each year. This time, the honor of delivering the opening speech fell to Dani Carvajal, Real Madrid's right-back, who appeared on the balcony of Madrid City Hall alongside Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida.
“Today I stand on this balcony not as a footballer, but as a fellow madrileño,” Carvajal said in his heartfelt speech. After the ceremonial moment, he took the opportunity to speak to the media about the injury that has sidelined him since October 2024.
Looking ahead, Carvajal made it clear that his main objective is to recover in time for the 2025 Club World Cup. “The Club World Cup? That’s the goal, that’s the challenge,” he said, hinting at a possible return to action during the tournament. Given the number of injuries plaguing Real Madrid’s defense this season, Carvajal’s comeback would be a major boost for the squad.
