Casemiro reflected on his years at Real Madrid during an interview with Rio Ferdinand on the former defender’s YouTube channel.
The Brazilian midfielder spoke about several iconic figures from his Madrid career, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Lionel Messi, and Neymar.
However, the player he praised most unexpectedly was Gareth Bale, whom he described as the most complete footballer he played alongside.
“For me, Bale was the most complete player,” Casemiro said. “Cristiano was all about goals and was on another level, but Bale could do everything: attack, defend, score, win aerial duels, take free kicks… he was incredibly fast and powerful.”
The Brazilian also highlighted the importance of Karim Benzema within Real Madrid’s legendary attacking trio, explaining that the French striker’s movement and link-up play created space for both Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo to thrive.
Speaking about Cristiano Ronaldo, Casemiro praised the Portuguese superstar’s mentality and relentless ambition.
“Against Barcelona it’s easy to be motivated, but Cristiano had that hunger even against smaller teams. He always wanted more goals. His ambition was unbelievable,” he explained.
Casemiro also admitted that defending against Messi was nearly impossible without collective help.
“You couldn’t stop Messi alone. It was impossible. Even when Barcelona weren’t playing well, he could decide games on his own,” the midfielder said.
The Brazilian further discussed the pressure of playing for Real Madrid, emphasizing the club’s constant demand for success.
“At Madrid, if you win La Liga, they ask about the Champions League. If you win the Champions League, they ask about next season. That’s the mentality of the club,” he stated.
Finally, Casemiro described his midfield partnership with Modric and Kroos as being built on mutual understanding and sacrifice, while naming Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, and Neymar as the three best players of his generation.
