Ibrahima Konaté is no longer at risk of suspension after the Competition Committee accepted Real Madrid's appeal against the yellow card he received against Villarreal. The French defender had been on four yellow cards and risked missing Sunday's El Clásico against Sevilla if he had received another booking. Following the decision, his tally has been reduced to three yellow cards.
The referee's report stated that Konaté was booked in the 81st minute for "bringing down an opponent in the dispute for the ball, thus cutting off their advance, preventing a promising attack." However, the Competition Committee accepted Real Madrid's argument that the video evidence did not support the decision.
"Having examined the allegations made by Real Madrid, as well as the video documentation provided in support of their claims, this Committee considers that it is appropriate to uphold them, as there is a clear material error in the description of the events that led to the contested caution. Indeed, viewing the images corresponding to the disputed action shows that there was no contact between the cautioned player and the opposing player, a circumstance that contradicts the factual premise on which the referee's decision was based," the Committee stated.
