Thibaut Courtois has pushed back against criticism surrounding the competitive level of the Club World Cup. As Real Madrid continue their campaign in the tournament, the Belgian goalkeeper addressed negative commentary circulating on social media, insisting that the competition features high-quality teams.
"If you believe the four people on Twitter who think the Club World Cup is garbage, you're mistaken,” Courtois said.
"People who truly understand football know how strong Brazilian clubs are, that Al-Hilal is a great team, and that Monterrey had a real chance to win today.”
Despite Courtois’ remarks, Borussia Dortmund later defeated Monterrey, once again reinforcing the dominance of top European clubs in international competitions.
