Thibaut Courtois didn't hold back when addressing the media in the mixed zone at MetLife Stadium, taking a clear swipe at LaLiga president Javier Tebas over the ongoing scheduling controversy. His comments come amid Real Madrid's frustration with their opening LaLiga fixture against Osasuna being set for Tuesday, August 19.
"At the end of the day, it's always the same with LaLiga," Courtois said. "Hearing those kinds of statements from a league president is something I’ve never experienced in Italy, England, or even the NBA. Maybe Tebas doesn’t like the Club World Cup, but it exists. We’re here representing Spanish football."
The Belgian goalkeeper didn't mince words when it came to what he sees as Tebas' self-centered approach: "It feels like this man just wants attention. I’ve never seen the president of any other competition speak the way he does."
