During a press conference ahead of Real Madrid's Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, Thibaut Courtois responded to Diego Simeone's accusation following the Madrid derby, where the game was temporarily halted due to objects being thrown at the goalkeeper. Simeone had suggested that Courtois provoked the Atlético de Madrid supporters.

Courtois addressed the comments diplomatically: "I respect his opinion, but I don't share it. We have different ideas about what constitutes provocation. The authorities have already made their decision, and I have nothing more to add on the matter."

The Belgian goalkeeper emphasized the importance of curbing violence, saying, "The key is that there can't be any violence. I've encountered similar situations in Belgium. I don't mind fans supporting their team and creating some rivalry—it's part of the game, and it gives me more adrenaline and motivation. But everything must be rooted in respect for the players, and violence must be completely eradicated."

Courtois concluded by pointing out the difference between fan engagement and harmful behavior: "A little banter between players and fans is normal. I have no problem with them singing at me. As long as there's no violence, I don't see any issue. We need to remove those who intend to cause harm."
