The Royal Spanish Football Federation has appointed Guillermo Cuadra Fernández to officiate Saturday’s La Liga clash between Real Madrid and Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, with Javier Iglesias taking charge of VAR.
Cuadra, who was born in Madrid but represents the Balearic refereeing committee, has significant experience overseeing Real Madrid fixtures in the league. He has officiated 17 La Liga matches involving Los Blancos, with a balance of 10 wins, 3 draws, and 4 defeats for the club.
The referee has already crossed paths with both teams before — most notably in last season’s 2-0 home win for Real Madrid against Villarreal at the Bernabéu.
As for Villarreal, Cuadra has refereed 16 La Liga matches involving the Yellow Submarine, during which they’ve managed 4 wins, 4 draws, and 8 losses. This season, he has already overseen Villarreal’s 5-0 victory over Girona, one of their most convincing performances of the campaign.
