Dani Ceballos’ future at Real Madrid is hanging by a thread. The Andalusian midfielder sparked speculation with a cryptic social media post: “The last dance,” written alongside a photo from the match against Oviedo. For many, it sounded like a farewell message — and, from the club’s perspective, a clear “for sale” signal.
This isn’t the first time Ceballos has been linked with an exit. Every summer his continuity comes under question, even though his importance has grown in recent years. Luka Modric’s departure seemed to open the door for him, especially with Jude Bellingham sidelined by a long-term injury. But Xabi Alonso’s hierarchy leaves him behind Arda Güler, Tchouaméni, Valverde, Camavinga, and even young Mastantuono.
That sense of frustration was evident in a pre-match chat with Santi Cazorla, captured by DAZN before the Oviedo clash. “Yes, yes, I understand there are important players and all that…” he admitted. But then he recalled his statistics with precision: “Last year I played 45 games. Out of 68, I started 24 and did very well, yes.” He closed the conversation with a phrase that summed up his feelings: “The trust of a coach… is equally important.”
Although Ceballos is respected at Valdebebas, his situation looks increasingly bleak. Not even the midfield shortage has earned him a starting role. If his social media post was indeed a farewell hint, the truth is clear: Dani Ceballos’ future at Real Madrid remains in serious doubt.
