It has been just over a month since Carlo and Davide Ancelotti bid farewell to Real Madrid, but their legacy continues to resonate deeply with the club’s supporters. The father-son duo guided Los Blancos through unforgettable moments, none more iconic than the legendary 2022 Champions League comeback. Still, their departure came with a bittersweet feeling after a trophyless final season.
In an interview with Marca, Davide Ancelotti reflected on the challenges of the 2024-25 campaign: "It was a very complicated season, with unexpected setbacks due to injuries. Dani’s injury hit us hard—he’s vital not just in matches but also for the intensity he brings to training. Militão’s absence also limited us significantly in defense.”
Davide added: "As my father said throughout the year, we lacked the consistency to compete at the top level with Barcelona.”
The former assistant coach also touched on the impact of Toni Kroos’s retirement: "Players like Toni or Luka are invaluable, not just for their talent, but because they lead by example. They send messages that sometimes even the coaching staff can’t deliver. Toni’s departure is a huge loss, but it was one we all saw coming.”
When asked whether he dreams of returning to the Bernabéu as head coach one day, Davide didn’t hesitate: "Of course, it’s a dream. Who wouldn’t want to coach Real Madrid? Just like Xabi Alonso probably dreamed of returning one day, so do many others. That dream certainly exists.”
Davide also praised Vinícius Jr., both as a player and a person: "We’re lucky to keep working with a player like him. His development since arriving at the club has been remarkable. He’s got a good heart, works hard, and means no harm. He sometimes gets heated during games; many elite athletes do. That’s part of the competitive fire. He knows his weaknesses and needs the right environment around him, certainly not one that constantly criticizes or singles him out.”
