The Spanish Football Federation has appointed De Burgos Bengoetxea as the referee for the highly anticipated Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Real Madrid, set for April 26. The experienced Basque official will fulfill a long-standing dream by taking charge of his first-ever Copa del Rey final.
This will be De Burgos Bengoetxea’s fourth time officiating a Clásico. His first came in the 2017 Spanish Super Cup first leg—a match remembered for Cristiano Ronaldo’s dramatic goal and subsequent sending-off. He also oversaw two Clásicos in 2023: one in the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia and another in La Liga at Camp Nou.
Supporting him in the video review booth will be Pablo González Fuertes, who has been appointed as the match’s VAR. The Asturian referee, promoted to La Liga in 2017, has officiated 153 top-flight games. This will be his first final serving as video assistant referee.
With a high-stakes clash between Spanish football’s fiercest rivals, all eyes will be on the officiating team to ensure a fair and well-managed encounter.
