While the headline "The signing is Militao" might be fitting, today isn't the day to jump to conclusions. However, it does capture the shared excitement in Brazil and at Real Madrid about the center-back's form. Militao is a solid, accurate, and above all, fast footballer. His return to form was inevitable, but it took time, primarily because his greatest strength, his speed, seemed diminished after his injury. Stripping him of his speed was akin to cutting Samson's hair; it was crucial to get him back to full power. And now, he's roaring back to life.

On Tuesday, the news broke early: Militao was starting for Brazil. He was chosen over Gabriel Magalhães (a standout at Arsenal), Beraldo (PSG's gem), and Bremer (one of Serie A’s best alongside Calafiori). There was no doubt Marquinhos would start for the Canarinha, but the debate over his defensive partner was intense.

Militao proved the decision right with his performance in the first match. Brazil’s attack faltered, but their defense held strong in a 0-0 draw against Costa Rica. Militao showed his toughness, bravery, and speed in tackles.

In the second match, a thrashing of Paraguay, Militao truly shone. He was quick in transitions, powerful in the air, and precise with his right foot, fulfilling coach Dorival’s requirements. He’s the ideal complement to Marquinhos and could eventually replace him. Militao nearly scored from a set-piece header, solidifying his excellent performance.

Excitement is building in Brazil and at Real Madrid. Militao's return after tearing his cruciate ligament (left knee, thankfully sparing the meniscus) was initially disappointing. He missed crucial games, looked erratic when he did play, and wasn’t himself. “I thought I’d be more tired, but my teammates helped a lot,” he joked after a decent game in San Sebastian, his first sign of recovery.

He ended the season not fully fit and wasn’t even considered for a starting role at Wembley. Real Madrid postponed everything to the next season, believing in his eventual return to form. And he’s proving them right. There’s no sign of the injury, and he’s regaining his speed. He should be at 200% when he returns to training, likely after the U.S. tour unless Brazil exits before the semifinals.

Militao is expected to start in the European Super Cup on August 14 against Atalanta in Warsaw. With Nacho leaving and Alaba’s recovery pointing to a September-October return, Militao and Rüdiger will likely be the starting duo. A potential signing of Yoro could stir debate, but for now, Militao-Rüdiger is reassuring for Chamartín. Militao is looking solid, brave, and fast, more like himself every day.
