With their LaLiga hopes virtually dashed following the defeat to Barcelona at Montjuïc, Real Madrid are already setting their sights on their next major target: the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup this summer.
The tournament begins on June 15, with the final scheduled a month later, and the club intends to arrive in peak condition—both on and off the pitch.
On El Chiringuito, Josep Pedrerol revealed key details of Real Madrid’s plan to ensure maximum competitiveness for the event. “Xabi Alonso will be Real Madrid’s coach starting June 1. He’s signing a three-year deal,” Pedrerol confirmed, marking the official start of a new era at the Bernabéu.
But Alonso won’t be coming alone. According to the same report, three new signings are expected to join the squad before the tournament kicks off.
“One will be Trent Alexander-Arnold, and there will be two more players: a left-back and a center-back,” said Pedrerol.
This plan requires early coordination with the players’ current clubs, as contracts like Alexander-Arnold’s are technically valid until June 30. However, Real Madrid are confident they’ll finalize all necessary agreements in time for the players to feature at the Club World Cup.
The club is aiming for a smooth handover from Ancelotti to Alonso and a fast-tracked integration of reinforcements. With €150 million in prize money and historical prestige on the line, Madrid want to hit the ground running—and Xabi Alonso’s new project is already taking shape.
