Enrique Riquelme has revealed one of the key figures in his electoral project during an appearance on El Larguero on Cadena SER, confirming that Raúl González Blanco would be his chosen sporting director if he becomes Real Madrid president.
Riquelme emphasized the importance of restoring club identity and relying on figures with deep ties to Real Madrid.
"Yes, I've already finalized it. He's Spanish. For this project, and given the club's current situation, we need to return to those values, to that Madridismo, to the DNA. It has to be a Real Madrid legend, accompanied by top professionals, someone who has played for Real Madrid in over 740 matches, 16 seasons, scored over 300 goals, and earned over 100 caps for the national team... There's no one who knows the Bernabéu better. And that's the person we've chosen," he said.
He then confirmed the appointment.
"He's the right person to lead a sporting project like the one coming to Real Madrid. It's Raúl González Blanco. If I'm president, Raúl will be Real Madrid's sporting director."
Riquelme also explained how the agreement was reached, highlighting direct conversations with the former Real Madrid captain.
"I had to explain the project to him, what we expected from him, and what we thought he could contribute. There's no one more suitable for that position than him. Furthermore, there are a number of Real Madrid legends who will be part of the project."
