Real Madrid continue to explore the transfer market after securing the signings of Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries and Bernardo Silva, with the club still searching for a defender and a midfielder ahead of next season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have shown genuine interest in Mateus Fernandes, a player who has been linked with the club in recent weeks.

The report states that José Mourinho requested the club assess the possibility of signing the Portuguese midfielder, viewing him as a combative option capable of adding depth and balance to the squad. Real Madrid also reportedly saw an opportunity following West Ham's relegation to the Championship.

However, the financial demands of the deal could prove to be a major obstacle. West Ham are said to value Fernandes at around €85 million, a figure considered difficult to justify for a player expected to have a rotational role within the squad.

Romano confirmed the club's interest but suggested that no significant progress has been made.

“Real Madrid has a genuine interest in Mateus Fernandes and has made contact. But, nothing is advanced yet because they have many midfielders.”

For now, Real Madrid remain attentive to the situation while continuing their search for reinforcements in midfield and defense.
