Ferland Mendy has been left out of Real Madrid's Champions League squad for the new season, with the club set to begin their European campaign next week against Inter Milan at the Bernabéu.
The French defender, who has been sidelined since the end of last season, does not appear on the official squad list submitted by Real Madrid to UEFA. His absence is particularly notable given that other long-term injured players, including Éder Militão and Rodrygo, have been included.
Mendy is the biggest omission from José Mourinho's List A, which otherwise contains the full first-team squad without any major surprises.
Meanwhile, List B includes several Castilla players who are eligible to feature in the Champions League. The latest signing, Sergio Martínez, is among them and will wear the number 38 shirt.
In total, 11 academy players have been included: goalkeepers Sergio Mestre and Javi Navarro; defenders Jesús Fortea, Joan Martínez and Mario Rivas; midfielders Thiago Pitarch, Cestero, Diego Villaba and Gabi Valero; and striker Yáñez.
