Florentino Pérez has outlined his vision for Real Madrid's future structure while also addressing the upcoming presidential elections in an interview with El País.
The Real Madrid president explained that his proposed changes are not intended to alter the club's member-owned model but rather to strengthen and protect it.
Pérez revealed that concerns over what he described as coordinated actions between Enrique Riquelme's candidacy and certain media outlets played a role in his decision to call elections.
"Over the past year, I've detected increasingly organized maneuvers between this candidacy (of Enrique Riquelme ) and certain media outlets. A horrible atmosphere was being created among the members. Their sole aim is to seize power for their own benefit. They're the same ones who supported Calderón . So I say, that's it, elections, let whoever wants to run. I'm prepared to reveal who each of them is."
The president then detailed his proposal to grant members an economic stake in the club while maintaining member control.
"I'm going to give the economic ownership to the 100,000 members. Being a Real Madrid fan will no longer be just a sentimental thing , as it has been until now, but will also mean being an owner of the club, for life. I want to give the members economic ownership. It's a source of satisfaction because I came in wanting them to be the owners from day one."
Pérez argued that the measure would help establish a clearer valuation of Real Madrid and allow members to better understand the club's financial worth.
"Who says the club is worth 10 billion? Forbes? That's not a valuation. A valuation is when someone buys a tiny part, 5%, simply to establish the value."
According to Pérez, any potential sale of a minority stake would require approval from the members through a referendum at a general assembly. He stressed that only 5% would be sold, with the overwhelming majority of ownership remaining in the hands of the members.
He also took aim at Riquelme's candidacy.
"It won't be decided by some random person who's just passing through, who has no money, and who's capable of taking out a predatory loan to acquire Real Madrid . The other candidacy is a syndicate of vested interests, the kind who used to sneak into assemblies without being members and vote."
Defending his record at the club, Pérez highlighted his long-standing commitment to Real Madrid.
"I've been here for 26 years, minus three. Nobody can doubt me. I don't need the money. And I've used it for the benefit of Real Madrid, just like in my first stint, when even the players weren't getting paid and I guaranteed 147 million."
The president also commented on the role of Anas Laghari in his project.
"He's like a son to me, and his father was like a brother. He helps me because he has a brilliant mind."
