Florentino Pérez has sent a strong message to anyone considering running against him in the upcoming Real Madrid presidential elections.

“Let them stop threatening, let them take the plunge, let them run and put up the necessary funds. Why is no one running against me? They must be afraid of me. Florentino isn’t going to leave until the members want me to go. They’ll have to shoot me,” the Real Madrid president declared.

Florentino Pérez was re-elected president on January 19, 2025, after once again running unopposed, with his mandate officially extending until 2029. However, the announcement of new elections has now triggered a process governed by strict timelines established in the club’s statutes.

Under the current rules, Pérez and his board will remain in charge until a new president is officially elected. This means the current leadership can still finalize important decisions, including the possible appointment of José Mourinho as the club’s next coach.

According to the report, Real Madrid has two days to officially call the elections. Once announced, candidates will have a ten-day period to present their candidacies.

The financial requirements to challenge Florentino Pérez remain enormous. Any candidate must guarantee 15% of the club’s budget, which currently exceeds €1.2 billion. In practice, this means presenting a financial guarantee worth approximately €187 million, in addition to forming a board composed of at least eight members.

The statutes also require presidential candidates to have held club membership for at least 20 years, while vice-presidential candidates must have been members for a minimum of 15 years.
