Florentino Pérez’s Real Madrid is known for not making January signings or giving bonuses for individual match victories or advancing through tournament rounds. However, there has been an exception to this rule this season.

As reported by Cope, the president has awarded each player €250,000 for reaching the Champions League quarterfinals. The reason behind this bonus is the increased effort required this season due to the competition's new format. Real Madrid has played four additional matches compared to last season—two more for the expanded group stage and two more for the playoff against Manchester City before qualifying for the round of 16. In total, they have played 12 matches, while last season they needed only 13 to win the trophy. If they make it to the final in Munich, they will have played 17 matches.

Typically, Real Madrid's bonuses are agreed upon at the start of the season in discussions between the team captains and the club president. The bonuses are tied to winning major titles like the Champions League and La Liga, rather than specific matches.

However, this season's bonuses also take into account the new Club World Cup. With 32 teams competing between June and July, and FIFA’s recently announced lucrative prize pool, the Real Madrid president is determined to see his club become the first to lift this prestigious new trophy.

Although the players appreciate the bonus, they won’t receive the full €250,000. After taxes, which are set at 45%, they will keep €137,000.
