Ferland Mendy’s place at Real Madrid is growing increasingly uncertain as Fran García continues to shine at the Club World Cup, making a strong case for a more permanent role in Xabi Alonso’s first team plans. Although Mendy is under contract until 2028, the club remains concerned about his recurring injuries and limited contribution in attack.

While Álvaro Carreras is still being targeted as a long-term solution for the left flank, with Benfica holding firm on their €50 million valuation, Fran García’s standout displays in recent matches have altered the club’s priorities. His emergence has given Real Madrid valuable flexibility and could reshape how they approach the transfer window.

According to AS, the club is now willing to listen to offers for Mendy, particularly from Saudi Arabia or Qatar, where the financial offers could match Madrid’s expectations. Though Mendy remains respected for his past performances and Champions League success, his defensive style and physical limitations no longer align with the demands of Xabi Alonso’s dynamic 3-5-2 system, which requires constant width and attacking runs from wing-backs.

Fran García, in contrast, has thrived under this new structure. With Vinícius Júnior playing more centrally, the left-back has been given more freedom to push forward—something Mendy has struggled with. Fran’s energy, reliability, and understanding of Alonso’s tactics have not gone unnoticed, with the coach praising his work rate and consistency.

Although the interest in Carreras remains active, Madrid no longer sees the deal as urgent. Fran García’s rise has given the club an internal alternative should Mendy leave, offering a balanced solution as the squad continues to evolve under Alonso.
