Real Madrid have completed the signing of Gabriel Suárez Castrelo, a talented midfielder who was previously a standout in Atlético de Madrid’s youth academy. The 18-year-old, who turns 19 in August, refused to renew his contract with Atlético, prompting the club to sideline him indefinitely. Since December, he has been barred from playing, but now finds a new opportunity at Valdebebas.
According to Marca and AS, Castrelo—who recorded 21 appearances and 8 goals in Atlético colours, will initially join Real Madrid’s U19 squad, though he could also earn minutes with Real Madrid C or even Álvaro Arbeloa’s Castilla side, depending on his progression.
The deal marks another chapter in the ongoing talent exchanges between Madrid’s two giants, ever since their informal non-aggression pact was broken years ago. Castrelo’s signing is expected to be officially announced in the coming days.
