Gonzalo was the undisputed star of the night, producing a sensational individual display. He broke the deadlock after 20 minutes with a powerful header, doubled the advantage shortly after the break with a magnificent right-footed volley from the edge of the area, and completed his hat-trick with an exquisite left-footed backheel finish.
Fran García and Asencio also found the net, with the latter scoring from another well-worked set piece, once again highlighting the effectiveness of Xabi Alonso’s tactical work. Cucho Hernández scored the consolation goal for Betis.
