According to BILD, the defender’s new deal reportedly includes a release clause between €50–60 million, valid from this summer and applicable only to a select group of clubs.

Journalist Andrés Weiss reacted strongly to the news, stating: “This seems like a complete farce… Schlotterbeck’s new contract has a €50–60 million release clause, and it likely applies to his ‘dream clubs’.”

Those dream destinations are believed to be Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, which could reopen the door for a potential move despite the recent renewal.

While the extension was initially seen as a clear signal of continuity in Dortmund, the existence of such a clause changes the narrative entirely, turning it into a strategic move that keeps transfer options very much alive.
